What comes into your mind when you hear the French word Atelier?
The dictionary translation would be: a workshop or studio, especially of an artist, artisan, or designer.
The words Studio and Workshop in English designate a workroom; a place for work.
It can be a yoga studio, a film studio, an educational studio and even used to describe a place for living - a studio apartment for example.
The French term Atelier on the other hand, is more specific. It characterize the workspace of an artist or designer and especialy the studio of a fashion designer.
I would definitely like to work in an Atelier rather than in a Studio.
And my dream Atelier would look like this:
Room full of figures, patterns and color.
As many drawers and cabins as possible. Shelves that rise up to the ceiling.
The largest tables there are. It would be perfect if they could be all around the room, so I can work on different projects at the same time without the need to organize and clean my workspace.
A lot of boxes in different shapes and size. With labels on them. Alphabets, concepts and ideas.
I found this wonderful and inspiring Atelier while I was searching for information about Fornasetti for one of the posts last week and it left me speechless. This is my dream workspace.
