I love magazines.
I love the short-term love affair I have with each issue. I love their smell.
I love the different point of view of each contributer, and I love it when they’re smart.
When I first noticed Habitus, I could tell it is a smart magazine just by looking at its cover.
And by smart I mean that I spend actually more time reading than looking at the photographs (which are excellent).
Its masthead - Living in Design, caught my attention.
Paul McGillick, Habitus Editor, explains this term in his Editor’s letter:
“People who are clear about what they believe in - their values - usually ‘design’ their life. They know what makes their lives meaningful and they do what is necessary to create for themselves the environment which will bring that about.
....
For the Design Hunter, life is not an accident, because an accidental life is... well, not a life at all. So, when we tell someone to ‘get a life’ what we really mean is: Become your own designer and inject some quality into living.”
I read this issue from cover to cover couple of times already and I keep reading it for inspirations, new ideas and fascinating thoughts.
Habitus is currently available
Also, I recommend visiting Habitus website for a lot more design materials and great articles.

i feel the same way about magazines. there are so many reasons why i shouldn't buy them...money...the environment...but i cave about once every two weeks. then i read each magazine cover to cover like 5 times before i can let myself get rid of it.
ReplyDeleteHi, Thanks for visiting my blog! So glad you did, since I've now found yours. It's truly wonderful* xx, Jane
ReplyDeleteI LOVE HABITUS.
ReplyDeleteI've two copies only, #1 and #2.
Only place i could find them in London was Harrods, but they don't carry it anymore. Have no idea where else i can find now.
This magazine led me to search more for australian and new zeland projects, which in my opinion are simply fantastic! they do understand space...
Habitus is actually distributed worldwide in 38 countries. It can be bought at Borders and Barnes & Noble in the US, Borders, Kinokuniya and Times Bookshops in Singapore, and plenty of other newsagents and bookshops.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Jane! Happy to 'see' you here!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Anonymous for the correction.
I updated the post with the right information.
It looks amazing from your scans/photos.
ReplyDeleteNever heard about this magazine before but would definitely check if I can get it around here.
The 2 last photos from it are amazing. I wonder if this article is available online.
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Margaret,
ReplyDeleteI've been told that Habitus will soon be available in digital form on the iPhone and iPad.
Not sure when, but this sounds great for catching up on the back issues as well as having the library of issues with you wherever you go.
... if you have an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, that is.
