We just came back from another great camping weekend, this time at the land side of The Coorong.
The Coorong is a national park and an internationally protected wetland. It is a long, shallow lagoon more than 100km in length that is separated from the Southern Ocean by a narrow sand dune peninsula.
The wetland plays a crucial role in the global migration of birds that fly thousands of kilometres from Europe and Asia to spend the Northern winter in South Australia.
It is such a beautiful, wild and fragile area that is on constant change due to weather conditions - long years of drought dried big parts of the lakes that are connected to it and changed its gentle ecosystem, and recently, 2 years of very rainy winters bring hope that it will restore its balance again.
This is our second time at the area. The first one, a year ago, was when my parents came Down Under to visit us. Back then we went on a cruise from Goolwa and explored the Coorong from the ocean and lakes side. It was an awesome cruise and we wanted to go back ever since.
This weekend was supposed to be a blissful combination of fine weather, breezy days and clear night. Eventually it was much too breezy the first day we arrived, with overcast night that didn't let the stars shine through. The second day was beautiful though and we enjoyed a long stroll on the beach and even spotted a couple of sea-lions playing not too far from us. It was absolutely wonderful!
It wasn't enough time to enjoy this remarkable national park and I'm already looking forward to traveling there again!!
We enjoyed this opportunity to take Ada with us and show her one of the most magnificent places in South Australia. I think she had a great time!
Looks wonderful !!!
