Russian Dacha

There's a beautiful editorial that I spotted lately in a couple of blogs, featuring a fashion shoot titled Russian Dacha, photographed by Masha Mel and styled by Tess Yopp (if you haven't seen it, check out Masha Mel's original post, I first spotted it over Pattern a Day).
As it is already available for you out there, I thought I will post my own photos from one magical weekend we spent in a dacha, about 4 years ago.

A Dacha is a family holiday place in the countryside where Russians like to spend weekends and holidays, especially in summer. Most houses are small and wooden, usually with a garden at the back where people grow vegetables and berries.
My own weekend in a dacha was back in 2007, when I first visited my husband's family in St. Petersburg (the dacha itself is located about 2 hours drive in the outskirts of St. Petersburg).
It was treasured time and an experience I fond and recall again and again. I can't wait to go back, this time with our little miss, who I know is going to enjoy it to bits.

Not sure if it is just the weather, or the northern sun, the colours looked amazingly sharp, and everything sparkled and looked extremely bright and lovely.

The best thing about a Dacha, is its Banya - the Russian term for sauna that is also used as the bathroom. The smell of the wood is intoxicating and spending a good half an hour in the steamy room, makes the world seem like a much better place...

No time in a dacha is complete without a superb Russian feast that includes drinking a lot of Kvass, beer, and vodka and eating the most delicious foods for a couple of good, long hours.

Our visit in Russia was during the end of the White Nights. The sun stays up and the nights sky is turned grayish-blue. I took those photos in 2am and everything looked enchanted.

  7. I hope you had a great camping trip! This reminds me a bit of the village home my grandparents have in Poland, but it's more of a second home than a vacation home. Either way, I love how it and your dacha are so close to nature.
