Parents know this routine - too many times you are 'forced' to watch films you really wouldn't like to.
Such is the case with Disney's Dumbo.
I didn't like it as a kid nor do I like it now. Something in this story doesn't appeal to me and I find it more heartbreaking then entertaining.

Anyway, the Little Miss asked to watch the flying elephant yesterday and while I put it on, trying to keep on what I was doing at the moment, I couldn't miss those opening titles.
Whoa!!! What an explosion of beautiful typography, excellent colour palate and quirky style! I couldn't stop watching!

P.S. Have you noticed the film's year on the third image? MCMXLI which is 1941
P.S.S Trivia: Dumbo is said to be Walt Disney's favorite film made by his studios

After "What state do you live in?", here comes a new interesting project: 50 and 50 from Society 6. Curated by Dan Cassaro, the project attempts to construct a handsome new way of looking at the United States. Fifty designers, one per state, have illustrated their state motto: a kind of designer's atlas.

I spend a couple of long enjoyable minutes looking at each, trying to figure out more about the history and character of each state from the artwork. For someone like me who is not an American, the way each state got such a different personality is fascinating.

What state do you live in?

Geof Crowl asked a simple question on Dribbble almost a year ago: "What state do you live in?". There are now 417 stunning responses (rebounds in Dribbblish) to his question.
Here are some of my favorites: (the first one is by Geof himself)

The Alphabet by Alessandro Novelli

A great typography spelling-video by New York based, Italian designer Alessandro Novelli/N9ve, where each character is the initial letter of a font name. Beautiful and brilliant.

Beautiful typography street art by Russian artist, Aske.
I love his graphic approach, even when choosing his professional name:
“I’d been thinking about what name to choose for quite a long time before picking up this one. I liked the combination of letters and their shapes,” he explains. “Since graffiti is all about letters and writing your name, I started experimenting with letterforms as soon as I got involved in graf.”

{Super late} Friday Finds:: The Alphabet

Oh my, even Saturday is almost over in our part of the world but I hope you'll forgive me as I have a special, extended Friday Finds this week!
I've been missing some typography around the Slow-Blog lately and thought it could be nice to go back to basic and make an Alphabet collection. I couldn't help it and sneaked in also a little bracket and (well, of course) one ampersand for dessert...

It was a great pleasure to curate this Friday Finds collection. I found the Alphabet in so many shapes, different expressions and variations that it was absolutely stunning.
Hope you'll enjoy this week's edition as much as I do!

Have a wonderful weekend my dears!
