Curating Colour

It has been more than a week here since we last spotted the sun.
I'm sure it is there somewhere, but as far as the gray sky looks like, there is no clear evidence.
I love the winter. The last couple of weeks were glorious, but I desperately need some colour!!

Lucky us for artists like Kirra Jamison and Courtney Price that use the whole spectrum of colour in their works.

Those five works are from Kirra's series Love Me Two Times. I find them so inspirational in term of the fabulous colour palettes Kirra is using. They also have such a strong pattern identity to them which made me imagine them printed on my beddings. Wouldn't it be fantastic to snuggle under a blanket printed with one of those works? I'm sure it will cause a totally magical, wild dreams.

Courtney Price's series Rectangular Objects uses colour in the totally opposite way than Kirra Jamison's soft organic shapes; the works are geometric, using very bold and distinct colour.

I'm Loving:: The New Domestic

The New Domestic

My geometry loving heart, with its soft spot for triangles, just missed a heartbeat!
I love these bags so much, I love the idea behind the store, I can't have enough of their beautiful blog, and I seriously think everything to do with The New Domestic is super happy, playful and especially fun!

Happy Monday friends!
May it be a quite week with less dramatic announcements. Peace.

1,2,3 Blocks

I'm in love with theses old-time looking, geometric wooden blocks from General Store.
Hand cut, sanded and painted by one of me recent favorite artists - Serena Mitnik-Miller (that co-owned the General Store with her husband).

I love the relaxed, earthy color palette Serena had chosen for her blocks as well as the way she left three dimensions clean from paint, what keeps the natural feel and touch of the reclaimed wood. Simply beautiful.

Whenever I post about geometric design, I find it hard to stop after just one post.
Again and again I'm attracted to the familiar shapes in their organized aesthetics.

These little brooches by Melbourne designer Emily Green are just gorgeous and the way she presents them in her photographs is stunning.
I enjoyed the way she describes her designs:
"My designs explore chaotic geometric shapes that use energetic colours and contrasting textures to create harmonious compositions. Through observations of organic textures and forms and congruous colour palettes, my designs reference my world and the aesthetic of Melbourne’s inner north."

P.S. I have lately discovered Twitter... Yes, yes, I know I'm so behind fashions.
But I'm catching up quickly! Come join me!

Geometry: Dislocation

I'm fascinated by how various shapes and graphics can create interesting geometric architecture and adorn the urban landscape.

Nonsensical Infographic

Nonsensical Infographic is an awesome series of artworks by Chad Hagen presented now at the 20X200 project webshop.

Chad said on his works:
"The science of infographics is an interesting beast. Infographics' level of success is always based on how much and how well they communicate their data—the classic form follows function. In this series, I reversed these roles—form is king and dictates what the infographic communicates. Welcome to the world of fictional visual information."

On my previous job I used to make so many charts for presentations and reports, I really loved making them but let me tell you, they were not even a bit inspiring as these ones...

Not sure what I like better, the clever idea behind it or the smart, colorful geometric result. Either way, it is a unique inspiring print and in such reasonable price it makes it wonderful gift for the art lover, charts challenged friend! Don't you find it the perfect art piece for a smart looking workspace?

Friday Finds:: Triangles Love

Hello lovelies, It's Friday again! (does the week passed super quickly for you too?)
It is Labor Day on Monday so we're having a long weekend, Hurray! We plan to take advantage of the awesome springy weather and go on (yet another) camping trip.
As we had so many triangles earlier, I thought it would be nice to wrap the week with a collection of my fave triangle designs from Etsy.
Have a warm, relaxing and fun weekend my friends and see you here on Monday Tuesday! xx Galit

1 Fox in the Woods by Heather Buchanan, 2 We Make Sense Poster by Natasha Mileshina for Bubbo, 3 "Blue and yellow makes green triangles" - Hand screen printed tea towels by Juliepeach, 4 Black Cotton Jersey Triangle Top by Out of Line, 5 Fabric Bunting by Knotted Nest, 6 Circus Bunting - Quilting Weight Cotton Fabric by Boosterseat, 7 Vintage brass triangle necklace by Urban Minimalist, 8 Contemporary Geometric Triangular Patterned Quilt by Malibu Quilts

Talking about triangles...

... These exquisitely beautiful objects by CraftedSystems are a pure geometry perfection ...

CraftedSystems was founded by industrial designer Aurelie Tu. It is not just a place for great designs; The project is a collaboration with the YWCA Women's Shelter in Portland, that helps training women with innovative weaving techniques and providing them with an empowering employment and a creative outlet.
For making their products, they use only eco-friendly production methods and materials (100% wool felt with no fasteners), and so they are completely sustainable.

As I can't resist geometry goodness almost of any kind, I love these so much. Their super modern and sophisticated look still have the handmade, more traditional feeling to it and when knowing the story behind Aurelie's project, they become quite irresistible.

Check out CraftedSystems website for many other great designs (especially the beautiful rugs and limited edition lamps).

Triangles Fun

Giddy Giddy is the creative and inspiring brainchild of Teri Dimalanta.
Her blog is full with wonderful DIY crafty activities and lots of clever ideas, most of them can be shared with your kiddies.
Teri's latest brilliant project was challenging her family to create art from hundred triangles in different colors...

This is what they came up with:

What a geometry joy! It is so much fun to look at the different works and admire the endless variations and possibilities even when your art is limited to using only one shape.
I also adore Teri's idea of entertainment for Friday's night, when most families would just spend the evening in front of the T.V... Superb!

P.S. It has been very quiet here the SlowLane on the last couple of days. My MacBook stopped working unexpectedly on Monday and I had no internet access until now. I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong but I hope to be able to go back to posting regularly from now on...

The combination of the geometric shapes, subtle color scheme and the natural landscapes won me over.

The Areaware Cubebot

It was a love at first sight when I saw the Areaware Cubebot. And a very big WOW....

Designed by David Weeks, the Cubebot is inspired by the Japanese Shinto Kumi-ki puzzles, makes it a non-traditional take on the toy robot by joining ancient Japanese traditions with contemporary toy culture.

One of the things that impresses me the most is that unlike his robot friends that are usually made of plastic, require batteries and win their fame by making too much noise, the Areaware Cubebot is made of sustainably harvested beech wood, is quite and clever.
This smart looking toy with its contemporary geometric design will surely remain classic years from now. Brilliant!

Heavenly Vaults...

... Are sometimes artworks of a spectacular pattern.

Seems more like an optical illusion, these rooflines of churches from all over the world facsimile a marvelous geometric kaleidoscope pattern.

Project Thirty-Three

Project Thirty-Three is a super cool project of Jive Time Records, a Seattle based store specializing in used vinyl. They scan the covers of old 33’s and post/collect them in their blog which became a terrific archive-gallery.
These are some of my favorites from the amazing collection of geometry, color, dots, circles and squares of Project Thirty-Three.

You might also like to check Groove Is In The Art, Jive Time Records  other album cover gallery which features psychedelic graphics on non-psychedelic records...
